The riddle of the rattle

January 9, 2014 by Luiza Barroso

I’ve made this rattle for a little contest we had in my wheel-throwing class, which theme was “baby’s best ceramic gift”, at the occasion of the royal baby birth. The requirement was that it was a wheel-thrown baby themed object. I decided to make some rattles for the parents to play with the newborn. It was a nice puzzle to figure out how to make these, specially the glazing. They are fully wheel-thrown in two pieces each, and filled with […]

Artisan cachaça bottle

December 18, 2013 by Luiza Barroso

This bottle was crafted to hold a great artisan cachaça I brought from my last trip to Brazil. This cachaça was crafted by the owner of a small restaurant at Costa da Lagoa in Floripa and he gave it to me as a keepsake of our lunch after the trekking that got us there. As he didn’t have any bottle he gave it to me in some anonymous plastic water bottle and I thought it deserved some better packaging. This […]

Miniature plant pots

December 15, 2013 by Luiza Barroso

These mini-pots were created to help the propagation of plants. As some plants are easily propagated my cuttings, I created a small dish that holds the cutting above a pot which is filled with water. The reason for this is that the roots will develop through the contact with water, but they are also sensible to light, so this dish will create the perfect separation between the needs of the roots and the needs of the leafs. The other tiny […]
